Miami HEAT players made the holiday season brighter for patients at the children’s ward of two local hospitals by distributing toys and other gifts. The HEAT teamed up with presenting partners FedEx and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida to host the HEAT Holiday Hospital Visits at Holtz Children’s Hospital at UM/Jackson Memorial Medical Center and at Baptist Children’s Hospital on December 22, 2009. One half of the team visited Holtz Children’s Hospital at UM/Jackson Memorial Medical Center and the other half visited Baptist Children’s Hospital. Burnie and the Miami HEAT Dancers also assisted in handing out toys to the many children who were admitted to the hospitals this holiday season. For the fourth consecutive year, founding HEAT Season Ticket Holder Larry Share donated toys to students at each of the three HEAT Academy Schools on December 16, 2009. Along with Burnie and the Xtreme team, Mr. Share personally delivered the toys to close to 300 student members of the HEAT Academy. The HEAT also provided Papa John’s pizza, Gatorade products, and brought the HEAT experience to each school they visited. In the final stop of the day at Jesse J. McCrary, Jr. Elementary, HEAT forward James Jones assisted Mr. Share in the toy giveaway and helped judge an impromptu dance competition.
